The Power of Actually Finishing Things

This came up in a slightly unexpected way this week.

A client had loads of ideas — genuinely brilliant ones — but very few of them were fully finished.

Half-written content. Nearly-launched offers. Draft plans.

And honestly, it’s something I see all the time.

We’re great at starting. Less comfortable finishing.

Why?

Because finishing means:

  • Being seen

  • Being judged

  • Committing to something

Starting feels safe. Finishing feels real.

So instead of pushing for more ideas, we focused on completing just one thing.

Not perfectly. Just fully.

Here’s what helped:

  • Choosing one priority (not five)

  • Defining what “finished” actually means

  • Setting a realistic deadline

  • Letting it be good enough

And the shift was immediate — not just in output, but in confidence.

Because every time you finish something, you build trust with yourself.

And that carries into everything else you do.

A small challenge for you this week:
Look at what’s half-done and pick one thing to complete.

Not improve. Not rethink.

Finish.

You might be surprised how powerful that feels.

Worth exploring: “Done is better than perfect” — a concept popularised in the early Facebook days, but still very relevant.
